As the snow has started to fall on the massifs, several ski resorts are opening this weekend, such as that of Val-Thorens. This year, many French people have anticipated booking their vacations, whether for the Christmas or February holidays. Professionals in the sector are delighted.

Good news for ski enthusiasts. The snow has fallen and the season opens this weekend in several resorts, such as Val-Thorens. Many French people have already booked their snow holidays, whether at Christmas or in February. Reservations that occur earlier than usual.

The first snowfall accelerated a trend that began two months ago. According to Domaines Skiables de France, a quarter of reservations had already been taken by the end of September. The occupancy rate is now 40%, a stable figure compared to last year. “All the lights are green,” says Alexandre Maulin, president of the professional union of Domaines Skiables de France, which brings together nearly 400 members. “All indicators show that there is an appetite for skiing and that people are eager to come for vacation this winter.”

Advance reservations

A trend already noted during previous holidays but which is increasingly reinforced during periods of inflation. “We are very early,” remarks Laurent Gicquel, marketing director of the Maeva platform. “We are seeing growth of 40%, with people who have really anticipated reservations a lot. We are almost a month, a month and a half ahead of other years.” The platform is also observing a clear return of English and Dutch tourists.

The destinations remain classic: Avoriaz or Les Arcs-La Plagne on the Maeva reservation site, while Abritel customers favor Les Saisies, Val Thorens or Les Menuires.
