A lot of fresh snow fell in Beaver Creek in the US state of Colorado early on Friday morning, which ultimately made a safe race impossible.
First, those responsible for the local organizing committee and the FIS tried postponing the start time by two and a quarter hours and shortening the route. The additional time was needed to clear the fresh snow from the slopes. But all the efforts of around 600 helpers were of no use.
Weather forecasts remain unfavorable
«They tried everything. Unfortunately unsuccessful,” said FIS race director Markus Waldner. «The racing line was in perfect condition. The problem was that despite all the efforts, the fall areas might not be cleared of all the snow. In addition, the fog rolled in once more in the upper part of the route, which restricted visibility too much.
On the “Birds of Prey” there is another downhill run on Saturday and a Super-G on Sunday. The snowfall should no longer be a big problem. However, strong winds are forecast.
