Ski jumping: Kraft won the start of the World Cup in Ruka

The former overall winner and world champion celebrated his 31st World Cup success and his 99th podium finish in a superior manner in Ruka on Saturday. With the maximum distance of 144 and 143 meters, the Salzburg player won the final 10.6 points ahead of the German Pius Paschke. Third place also went to the neighboring country with Stephan Leyhe. Carinthian Daniel Tschofenig made it to fifth place.

Kraft can step up his game on Sunday and record his 100th jump onto the podium. The podium record is held by Finn Janne Ahonen with 109, whose son Mico was 44th on his World Cup debut on Saturday. The Slovenian world champion Timi Zajc came in eighth place. Defending World Cup champion Halvor Egner Granerud from Norway had to settle for 16th place.

With Michael Hayböck (9th) and Jan Hörl (10th), two more Austrians made it into the top ten. The German team also presented a strong performance with four athletes in the top ten. However, it was a bitter defeat for the Poles, who only brought Dawid Kubacki (21st) into the second round.
