During an extraordinary weekend for French winter sports, Joséphine Pagnier, victorious in the Lillehammer round, became at 21 the first French jumper to win in a World Cup event since the success of Coline Mattel in Sapporo ten years earlier. La Doubienne has the feeling of realizing a dream, even more so with the yellow leader’s bib hanging on her suit.

A first podium in the World Cup, then a victory rewarded with the yellow bib of provisional leader of the general classification… Just like the biathlete Lou Jeanmonnot, author of a resounding double in Östersund or a nearby Clara Direz (he took by six hundredths) to climb on the podium of the Mont-Tremblant giant while she had thought of ending her career at the start of the year, Joséphine Pagnier, competing in Lillehammer, came to illuminate this weekend that French winter sports will not soon forget. Ten years after Colline Mattel’s feat in Sapporo in 2013, the young 21-year-old French jumper became the second Habs in the history of the discipline (Mattel also won the Sochi round in 2012 while among the men, only Nicolas Dessum, also in Sapporo but in 1995) to win in a World Cup event. On Saturday, Pagnier had already signed the best performance of his career, finishing 2nd. This clearly did not satisfy the Doubienne born in Pontarlier like Jeanmonnot and who hit even harder the next day by climbing this time to the highest step of the podium, yellow jersey to boot. Afterwards, the other French heroine of the weekend struggled to achieve it.

Pagnier: “My season is already largely successful”

“For me, it’s huge, it’s a little girl’s dream. I always looked with stars in my eyes at the great champions who wore the yellow jersey. When it was given to me, it was really a lot of emotion,” the Chaux-Neuve jumper admitted to FFSTV, admitting that she would never have imagined climbing so high. “I’m really happy to have done what I did this weekend. I think that even in my greatest hopes, I would never have imagined this, I’m just super happy. I wanted to have no regrets from the first weekend, in fact, and to really go offensive (sic) and it paid off. » The 2019 Youth Olympic Games silver medalist obviously hopes that she will create a sensation again during her next outing, in two weeks in Engelberg (Switzerland). However, this will only be a bonus for the woman who was predicted to have a great future even before her weekend’s exploit. “My season is already largely successful, all I have to do is jump for myself.” But with a lot of supporters behind her now.
