Ski jumping: Eva Pinkelnig won the Hinzenbach double

Eva Pinkelnig also won the second ski jumping World Cup competition in Hinzenbach on Sunday and is leaving Upper Austria as a double winner. The Vorarlberg woman won with 90 and 90.5 meters and 246.6 points, 7.7 points ahead of the Slovenian Nika Prevc. Jacqueline Seifriedsberger, who came second on Saturday, came third, 1.1 points behind Prevc.

For Pinkelnig, who started the season late, it was her fifth success this winter alone and her 14th overall in the World Cup. Seifriedsberger improved from sixth place to third place, meaning the ÖSV team once again managed two podium places.

“It’s unbelievable. I’ve already been able to experience that in Villach, now also there in Hinzenbach, winning twice at home. And now to be on the podium twice with Jacqui, that’s just cool,” said Pinkelnig, who now has already moved up to second place in the overall World Cup.

For her coach Thomas Diethart it was also a 32nd birthday present. “Absolutely, I still have to tell the stadium announcer that we’re all still singing Happy Birthday together,” said Pinkelnig. She will now take second place overall. “I’ve never been good at arithmetic. I’m pretty good at ski jumping, that’s what I concentrate on,” she said in an ORF interview. “She leads quite confidently,” Pinkelnig knew. Prevc is 208 points ahead of her.

“I really enjoyed it. I was a bit nervous in the second round, but after Katha (Schmid, note) I figured out that Jacqui would be on the podium and then I was in such a positive mood that I did another one out,” explained Pinkelnig. “Double home win is really cool.”

Seifriedsberger was also happy, especially with the second round. “That was a really cool jump, there was too much violence in the first one. I generally don’t get into trouble. I’m happy with what’s happening at the moment. Standing on the podium isn’t an everyday occurrence, especially twice at home.”

As the third-best Austrian, Lisa Eder made it into the top ten thanks to an 87.5 m set in the second round. Eder improved from twelfth to seventh place. It was her seventh top ten placement this season.

The ski jumpers are now heading back to northern Europe. It goes to Lahti, Oslo, Trondheim and then with two ski flights to Vikersund. The competition will be completed together with the men in Planica, but there on the normal hill on March 21st.
