Following KT, SK Telecom and LG U+ are also preparing to launch 5G rate plans in the 30,000 won range in March.

According to the telecommunications industry on the 11th, SK Telecom is preparing a 5G rate plan reform plan that includes the creation of a minimum 30,000 won range and plans to report the terms and conditions of the new rate plan to the Ministry of Science and ICT as early as this month.

SK Telecom, a market-dominant operator, is subject to the deferred reporting system, which requires that in order to launch a new rate plan, it must first be reported to the government and then go through a review process by the Terms of Use Review Advisory Committee.

Since the advisory committee review takes up to 15 days, it is expected that the product will be released in March rather than February. However, if it is reported immediately after the Lunar New Year holiday and the Ministry of Science and ICT reviews it quickly without completing the 15-day deadline, there is a possibility that it will be released at the end of February.

LG U+ is also known to be pushing to launch a 5G plan priced as low as 30,000 won in March.

Previously, KT introduced a 5G rate plan in the 30,000 won range last month. The establishment of a new 5G rate plan in the 30,000 won range by the three mobile carriers is not expected to last longer than March at the latest. In the ‘Measure to Relieve the Burden of Communication Costs’ announced by the Ministry of Science and ICT in November last year, the introduction of the 30,000 won rate plan was proposed as the first quarter of this year.
