The winner is SK Sturm. The young people from Graz beat SK Rapid 2-1 in a thrilling final in front of around 350 spectators at the Allianz Stadium. The high-class field of participants at this year’s exhibition of the biggest European U15 talents in Europe promised to be a great tournament even before the three-day event began. The promise was kept. Passion and emotions paired with playful quality and individual class were once once more the recipe for a successful event, which was held in cooperation with VARTA AG, which, as a strong partner of SK Rapid, attaches great importance to the development of the green and white young talent.
The grand finale
In front of President Alexander Wrabetz, Managing Director SK Rapid Steffen Hofmann and Managing Director Sport Markus Katzer, the final started very badly for Rapid. A controversial ball win in their own half was followed by a counterattack by Graz, which Jonas Peinhart converted with a low shot into the far corner to make it 0-1. After the break, Green-White got off to a better start. Lukas Posch went solo, left half of the back line standing and scored the much-celebrated equalizer. Jonas Peinhart scored a brace, was crowned top scorer (4 goals) and secured SK Sturm the title at the SK Rapid U15 VARTA tournament.
Academy director Willi Schuldes once once more saw the international performance comparison as a complete success for everyone involved: “With Ajax, Barcelona and Dinamo Zagreb, we have welcomed three world-famous academies to us. Our boys demonstrated their skills in every game, played really good games and played convincing football. It was not just for SK Rapid as the organizer of the tournament, but for Austrian football as a whole, because despite the high-class field of participants, there were three national teams in the top four.”
“It was a great event that brought together the greatest talents from international football here in Hütteldorf. Our boys showed a great performance, beat FC Barcelona, that was a sensational event,” said Rapid President Alexander Wrabetz happily following the award ceremony.
