Sixty people were killed on Saturday in the bombardment ofa school in the Lugansk region in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Sunday.
“Just yesterday, in the village of Bilogorivka, Lugansk region, a Russian bomb killed 60 civilians,” said Volodymyr Zelensky during a videoconference intervention at a G7 summit. “They were trying to find refuge in the building of an ordinary school which was targeted by a Russian airstrike,” he added.

“An aerial bomb hit a school and 60 people died under the rubble,” Lugansk region governor Sergey Gaidai told Russian-language Current Time TV. “There are always very strong strikes on Bilogorivka,” he continued.
“I would really like to believe that people are still alive there”, he however said, specifying “that as soon as the bombings are over, we can start clearing the rubble”. Sunday morning, Serguiï Gaïdaï had declared that “there were a total of 90 people” on the spot at the time of the strike. “27 were saved,” he added, adding that the temperature had been very high on the site following the explosion.
