The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) filed another request for impeachment once morest the president of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), Blanca Alfaro, for the case of the dismissal of a worker who was accused of recording conversations with electoral body personnel and who has family ties to the head of the Feci, Rafael Curruchiche, the magistrate reported on Tuesday, July 2.

The TSE president pointed out that the Special Prosecutor’s Office Against Impunity (Feci) has 34 complaints once morest her, of which in six cases the right to preliminary hearing has been withdrawn, including the case of the purchase of the TREP system and others for abuse of authority.

“Today, through one of my colleagues at the Supreme Court of Justice, I was told that on June 11, a request for impeachment was received for the case of the young man – Christian Andreé Natareno Juárez – who is a relative of the Feci prosecutor. This would be, for me, practically the sixth of the impeachments,” said Alfaro.

He added that the request is in the hands of the Supreme Court’s Chamber of Appeals, since it has not been reviewed by the full court of judges.

“I have 34 complaints in the Feci, of which six have reached the Court of Appeals -request for removal of immunity-. As a person and as a public servant it is sad, because (…) how long will it take me to resolve all these complaints,” said the magistrate.

“I know that we are in conflict as a country, we are divided and this does not help to find solutions to strengthen a constitutional state of law or democracy, this also harms democracy, it harms the certainty of service to citizens,” said the official.

The case

On February 23, the TSE reported that an employee of that agency was caught recording conversations he had with the staff of that entity, and it was Judge Blanca Alfaro herself who noticed the action.

Alfaro said in a video shared with reporters that she was notifying an employee regarding a vacation period he had to take.

“Our surprise is that every time he goes with people, the young man records all the messages and he was just now in an office and was recording. I asked him to lend me the phone because I suspected him and indeed he records all the calls and messages,” Alfaro said in the video, in which the accused also appears.

“I don’t want people to think that this is revenge, on the contrary, it is unfortunate that a worker of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal does such ugly things to damage such a noble institution,” Alfaro said on that occasion.

He is a relative of Curruchiche

The employee accused of recording the conversations was identified as Christian Andreé Natareno Juárez, who served as Clerk 1 of the Coordinating Unit of Delegations and Subdelegations, position number 427, with a monthly allowance of Q5,950, since February 3, 2021.

On March 13, the TSE published Agreement 18 – 2024, in which it accepts the resignation of Christian Andree Natareno Juárez, who held the position of Clerk I of the Coordinating Unit of Delegations and Subdelegations.

The agreement issued by the TSE establishes that Natareno Juárez submitted his irrevocable resignation on March 4, 2024.

The electoral body also authorized the payment of labor benefits in favor of the former employee and declared the position vacant.
