Johannesburg (ots/PRNewswire) – The sixth BRICS Media Forum opened in South Africa on Saturday and called for strengthening the voices of developing countries.
Around 200 MPs from around 100 media, think tanks and international organizations from around 30 countries discussed under the motto “BRICS and Africa: Strengthening media dialogue for a common and impartial future”.
The media of the BRICS countries have great responsibilities and scope for cooperation at this time, said Fu Hua, executive chairman of the BRICS Media Forum, at the forum’s opening ceremony.

Dakota Legoete, Member of the National Executive Committee of the African National Congress, spoke at the opening of the forum. “Since its inception in 2015, the BRICS Media Forum has grown into an important platform to strengthen the voice of the BRICS countries,” he said.
Andrey Kondrashov, director general of the Russian news agency TASS, said that over the past decade the forum has become a distinctive and iconic platform for discussing media cooperation between member states. He called on the BRICS media to work together to combat misinformation and protect the interests of developing countries.
Jose Juan Sanchez, head of Brazilian financial and agricultural information provider CMA Group, stressed the importance of credible and impartial news. “Communication between the BRICS media is vital, and member countries should aim for sustainable economic, environmental and social development,” he said.
“The BRICS Media Forum has been instrumental in amplifying the international voice of member states and promoting globalization, with peace and cooperation remaining its primary goals,” said Helio Doyle, President of Brazil Communication Company.

The forum highlights the challenges facing developing countries and provides them with a platform to express their views and aspirations, Surve noted.
