Six year old game is selling better than ever

Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone can’t believe how well his game is selling. Most recently, the farm adventure had reached the milestone of 20 million copies sold.

Six years following its release, the farming game Stardew Valley seems to be more popular than ever. According to the official website, the indie game was recently able to Reach milestone of 20 million copies sold, 13 million units of it on PC. As the game’s creator confirms, today’s daily sales are higher than ever before.

“Stardew Valley” probably more popular than ever

Just a few months following the release of Stardew Valley in 2016, sales had already exceeded one million. In January 2020, the mark of 10 million copies sold was reached. Finally, in September 2021, the number surpassed 15 million and now, just eight months later, we are at 20 million copies of Stardew Valley sold.

“Stardew Valley’s average daily sales are higher today than ever before,” said game creator Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone. “I’m not exactly sure why that is. I hope the game continues to spread through word of mouth. The more people play it, the more people will share the game with their friends. In any case, I’m very happy that Stardew Valley is still so popular.”

Apparently the leap from 15 to 20 million copies sold wasn’t quite as big as it might sound. “Part of the apparent jump in sales is because I did a more accurate count this time,” Barone explains. “The old number of 15 million was underestimated because I didn’t have complete information and I didn’t want to be too far-fetched. With the full shift to self-publishing this year, I’ve been able to do a more thorough sales count.”

Eric Barone is currently working on two new games, one of which „Haunted Chocolatier“ was presented in October 2021. As a side note, he’s still a supporter of Stardew Valley, and with the continued popularity of the farm title, it’s likely that he will continue to be so. However, “Haunted Chocolatier” is said to remain the priority for now.

More Stardew Valley news:

“Ultimately, I have to follow my heart or the quality of the content will suffer,” Barone wrote. “Right now I’m most excited to work on Haunted Chocolatier, so that’s going to be my priority. When I need a break from Haunted Chocolatier or have ideas for Stardew Valley that are close to my heart, I might shift gears for a while. But I don’t have any strict plans. Being productive every day and following my own path makes me feel good…and I think that will lead to a better bottom line for everyone.”
