Six killed in Kabul suicide blast, 13 Rakhmi: Police

Afghanistan capital of Kabul Police say six people were killed and 13 injured in a suicide blast in Kabul on Monday.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for Monday afternoon’s attack in Qila Bakhtiar, a southern suburb of Kabul.

Violence in Afghanistan has declined since the Taliban seized power in 2021, but several militant groups, including the regional branch of ISIS, are still active.

Kabul Police Spokesman Khalid Zadran says that a person wearing explosives detonated and a woman is among the dead.

He posted on social media platform X that the injured have been shifted to the hospital in time and investigations are on.

Afghanistan’s Taliban officials have made security their top priority since coming to power after the withdrawal of foreign forces three years ago.

According to analysts: ‘Although their extensive security operations have reduced the number of militants challenging Taliban rule, they also ignore or delay confirming attacks.’

The last suicide attack in Afghanistan was claimed by the regional branch of ISIS in March in the southern city of Kandahar, a historic stronghold of the Taliban.

According to Taliban officials, only three people died in this blast, while hospital sources put the death toll at 20.

Taliban government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told AFP last month that Daesh was there before but we suppressed them hard.

“There is no such group that can pose a threat to anyone,” he said.
