Six children died in a tragic school bus accident in Santander

In a serious accident, the route covered by a school bus in the municipality of San Andrés, in Santander, ended. The vehicle rolled into a 200 meter abyss causing the death of at least six minors. 15 more who were injured.

“Unfortunately I have to confirm the accident of a school bus on the Laguna de Ortices-San Andrés road, where 6 minors died and there are more than 15 injuredbetween children and adults”, said the governor of Santander, Mauricio Aguilar.

The fatal accident occurred at 3:20 in the followingnoon on Tuesday in a rural area of ​​the municipality of San Andrés. The bus driver lost control and It was filmed in the sector known as Alto de San Pedro.

César García, Coordinator of Santander’s Risk Management Unit, indicated that the wounded were evacuated by helicopter.

It is known that the vehicle was transporting the children return to their homes following the end of the school day. Preliminary information details that the cause of the accident would be a mechanical failure.

Governor Aguilar affirmed that the care of the affected families is being coordinated with the aid and rescue agencies.

According to the National Highway Agency, so far in 2022, 1,136 people have died in traffic accidents. Of this, 54 correspond to the department of Santander.
