The qualifications for the surfing event of the Paris 2024 Olympics officially start this Friday in California with the ISA Worlds (September 16-24). The first two tickets will be issued at the Huntington Beach spot. They will be non-nominative. The best nation in the overall ranking, male and female, will earn a place in addition to the quota limit of two athletes per country.
Example: if France finishes as the best nation in the men’s ranking, it will be awarded an additional place, a non-nominative place that the French Surfing Federation can therefore distribute to the surfer of its choice in addition to the one or those already qualified. In the best case – which however seems rather unlikely – France might have six surfers in Teahupoo: 3 men and 3 women.
On the men’s side, Jérémy Florès, Michel Bourez and Joan Duru have given way to the new generation embodied among others by Tim Bisso, Gatien Delahaye and the Tahitian Mihimana Braye, who is called up for the first time with the Blues. Maxime Huscenot preferred to preserve himself in order to better prepare for the next Challenger Series, which begins on October 1 in Ericeira (Portugal). The French Federation indicates that the selection for these Worlds ” was made with regard to the classification on the Challenger Series 2022 ».
Before the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, three ISA Worlds are scheduled: following those of Huntington Beach 2022, two World Surfings are planned in El Salvador in 2023 and 2024, where the winners will be directly qualified on a personal basis.
