A downward trend in HIV prevalence is observed among young people in Kolda. This is information reported by the coordinator of the counseling center for adolescents (CCA) d. Babacar Sy spoke about the HIV/AIDS situation in Fouladou on 1is December day dedicated to the fight against this disease.
However, the coordinator of the CCA of Kolda notes at the same time an “upsurge in STIs” which, according to him, constitute entry points for HIV. In addition, the prevalence rate at the population level is still high. It is around 2% against a national average of 0.7%, according to Mr. Sy. That’s why he advises young people to avoid unprotected sex if they can’t abstain. He took the opportunity to deplore this tendency to forget HIV AIDS by populations since the health crisis linked to COVID. We must continue to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, he insisted.
