The authorities in Kyiv called on the general population to enter shelters due to the violent air strikes by Russian forces, the Ukrainian news agency reported.
Separately, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law placing criminal liability on anyone who likened the Soviet Union to Nazi Germany during World War II.
The penalty stipulated in Article 13.48 is a fine of 5,000 rubles or detention for up to 15 days for individuals and fines of up to 100,000 rubles for legal persons. The legal article provides for the punishment of anyone who likens the goals, decisions and actions of the leadership of the USSR, the leadership and military personnel of the USSR to the goals, decisions and actions of the leadership of Nazi Germany, the leadership and military personnel of Nazi Germany and the European Axis countries during World War II, as well as a denial of the decisive role of the Soviet people in the defeat of Nazi Germany and the humanitarian mission of the USSR in the liberation of European countries.
In the event of a repeat offense in relation to individuals, a fine in the amount of two and a half to five thousand rubles or administrative detention for a period of up to 15 days is imposed. As for officials, an administrative fine ranging from five thousand to 20 thousand rubles or disqualification for a period of six months to one year is imposed on them. As for legal persons, the fine is in the amount of 50 thousand to 100 thousand rubles or an administrative suspension of activities for a period of up to 90 days.
