SHARJAH, 19th May / WAM / His Highness Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, opened today, Friday followingnoon, the activities of the twenty-third edition of the Sir Bu Nair Festival, which is being organized by the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority, on the shore of Sir Bu Nair Island.

His Highness cut the opening ribbon to mark the start of the festival’s activities, following which he toured the festival’s corridors and was briefed on the various environmental, heritage and tourism activities it includes, in which a number of government agencies in the Emirate of Sharjah participate.

His Highness watched the exhibition accompanying the festival, and got acquainted with the contents of various marine crafts and activities. His Highness listened to the most prominent activities presented by the participating parties that highlight their efforts to preserve biodiversity, in addition to historical evidence regarding Sir Bu Nair Island and its environmental elements. normal.

His Highness kindly honored the sponsors of the festival, the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the Sharjah Police General Command, the Sharjah Radio and Television Authority, the Sharjah Government Media Office, the Sharjah International Marine Sports Club, the Sharjah Sports Council, the Real Estate Hills, the Sharjah Driving Institute, and the Emirates Marine Environment Group, Mahdia They named them shields, and took memorial photos with them.

During the festival, His Highness the Deputy Ruler of Sharjah released a group of sea turtles on the shore of Sir Bu Nair Island into the sea, to add to the diverse animals that live on the island and its sea in an environment rich in biodiversity that contributes to their reproduction.

The festival includes a rich and varied assortment of activities, events and attractive programs full of awareness, knowledge and entertainment, such as environmental campaigns, sports championships, marine competitions and various heritage activities aimed at strengthening the participants’ connection with environmental landmarks and promoting the tourist sites that abound in the Emirate of Sharjah, targeting all segments of society.

The festival witnesses several accompanying activities such as the creek cleaning campaign, a media tour around the reserve, the process of cultivating and installing coral reefs, in addition to a fishing competition, a swimming championship, and a kayak racing championship, in addition to performances by the heritage band, and championships in swimming, football and electronic games. Playstation, in addition to the marine bike show, traditional rowing, tug-of-war competition, the “Mother of the May” competition, the search for Al-Dana, and the release of turtles.

Sir Bu Nair Island of the Emirate of Sharjah is located at a distance of 110 kilometers from the city of Sharjah. The island is distinguished by its sandy beaches and clear waters, and its surroundings are rich in coral and fish life. Its area is regarding 13 square kilometers. The island is of international importance, as the name of the reserve was included in the international agreement. Wetlands (Ramsar), in order to preserve their environmental components rich in biodiversity, have also been included in the UNESCO preliminary list of World Heritage Sites, and accepted in a memorandum of understanding on the protection and management of sea turtles and their habitats in the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia.

The launch of the festival was attended by Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police, Hana Saif Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Environment and Natural Reserves Authority, Khaled Jassim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Ali Saqr Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of the Emirates Marine Environment Group, and Mohammed Hassan.
