Sinterklaas is coming to our municipality again

Santa Claus Is Coming to Town! (Or is it Sinterklaas?)

Now, gather around, dear readers! Have you heard the splendid news? Our jolly friend, Santa Claus, is sailing—yes, sailing!—into our municipality aboard a boat packed with presents. For the sake of clarity, this isn’t some dodgy holiday cruise; it’s Sinterklaas dragging his merry band of Piets from sunny Spain over quite the tumultuous sea. I’m not saying he’s a bad sailor, but let’s just say the North Sea is probably asking for a stiff drink after that journey!

But fret not! It’s not just a parade of suspiciously dressed men in colorful trousers – oh no! The main event is for the kids. Are you ready, camp? Dust off those shoes! The Good Saint is almost here, and I don’t mean the “good” as in “I’m good at eating cookies.” I mean he’s here to fill them with gingerbread nuts. And why gingerbread? Because clearly, a sock stuffed with Brussels sprouts would turn into a family therapy session quicker than you can say “bah, humbug!”

Mark Your Calendars, Lads!

Now, when is this great spectacle going down, you ask? Better grab a pen—or if you have one of those fancy phones, just use that! We’ve got:

Saturday, November 16th – Nieuwkoop: 2:30 PM

Watch as Sinterklaas arrives, looking all dapper at Reghthuysplein. Our Mayor, Robbert-Jan van Duijn, will be there to welcome him because, clearly, your local Mayor has nothing better to do than hang out with a guy in a red cloak. Between 3:15 and 3:30 PM, the fun parade kicks off, and if you’re lucky, you might just spot a Piet slipping and sliding on a banana peel! What a way to get a giggle!

Saturday, November 23rd – Nieuwveen: 10:30 AM

You early risers in Nieuwveen are in for a sugar-laden treat! Sint and Piet are making a show of arrival at the town hall before a festive driving tour around the village. That’s right, folks! Chocolate milk and treats will be thrown around like confetti at a wedding. What could possibly go wrong? Only your waistline post-event!

Saturday, November 23rd – Longer: 10:30 AM

While over in Langeraar, Sint’s boat docks for another jig—sorry, I meant jiggle—only to end up at a party meant exclusively for the littlest kiddos around IKC de Poel. Sorry parents, no cake for you! But don’t worry; there’s coffee! Which is just like cake, right? At least it keeps you awake while the kiddos sugar high on gingerbread treats!

Saturday, November 23rd – Ter Aar: 2:00 PM

And not to forget Ter Aar! They’ll also be welcoming Sint with open arms, followed by a whirlwind tour through the streets! And a proper party! Nothing like a little Drum & Show Band action to pull out some impressive dad dancing.

Sunday November 24th – Zevenhoven/Noordeinde

As for North Zevenhoven? Well, I’m sorry, but the elves at Santa’s workshop seem to be slacking! No details yet, but you’ve got my word that we’ll keep our ears peeled! Because we wouldn’t want anyone feeling left out—Elf or human!

If your little community event isn’t listed, it’s time to take action! Just fire off an email to [email protected]. Don’t be shy! The Good Saint loves a good surprise, and we could use some extra fun on the agenda!

So there you have it, folks! A whirlwind of beats, treats, and festive treats as the end of November approaches. Get your shoes ready, your hats on, and don’t forget to practice your best wave! After all, you wouldn’t want to miss a snap with Sinterklaas, would you?

Happy clapping, giggling, and gingerbread munching!
