Sino-Burkinabe cooperation: exchanges with students on the Chinese stock market

L’Chinese Embassy in Burkina Faso, in partnership with the Youth Alliance for Peace and Development (AJPD-BF), organized, on September 14, 2023, a public conference with Burkinabè students on educational cooperation.

This conference aimed to provide more information on the different scholarship programs that the Chinese side offers to Burkinabè students. It focused on the theme: “Educational cooperation between China and Burkina Faso, and scholarship from the Chinese government 2024-2025. »

The Chinese scholarship in Burkina Faso is a program which aims to strengthen economic but also educational cooperation between China and Burkina Faso. Since the resumption of diplomatic relations, more than 200 students have benefited from Chinese government scholarships to study in China, and more than 300 students have received scholarships from the Chinese Ambassador.

For the Ambassador of the Republic of China, Lu Shan, it is a great pleasure to be among the Burkinabe youth: “For 5 years, Sino-Burkinabe cooperation has been going very well and I have also become aware that we must invite the Burkinabe youth to participate more in Sino-Burkinabe cooperation. We must encourage Chinese and Burkinabè youth to deepen mutual knowledge, and I think that educational cooperation will be a very good bridge to achieve these objectives,” he suggested to the students.

He hoped that through this public conference, students could know the criteria, as well as the procedures for obtaining Chinese scholarships. “We see that through this public conference, more and more young Burkinabè people want to master the relevant information on politics or the latest information on Sino-Burkinabe cooperation,” he continued.

For the president of the organizing committee, Omar Dicko, this conference was initiated to allow students to have more information on the Chinese stock market, because for him, there would be a lack of information on the stock market issue. “This activity is an opportunity to allow them to be informed about the different scholarships that are available,” he declared. Since 2020, China has awarded more than 35 scholarships to Burkinabè students, and for the president of the organizing committee, this action is beneficial. However, in view of the growing number of requests, it is desirable that the Chinese Ambassador revises the quota of scholarships upwards.

Lu Shan did not fail to let it be known that grievances will be studied with much more attention. Also, he did not fail to show his admiration for the Burkinabè youth, who are very dynamic, according to him: “After my arrival in the land of honest men, I was deeply impressed by the Burkinabè youth. You are the most dynamic and energetic section of society. »

In addition to information on the various scholarships, conference participants had discussions with former scholarship beneficiaries, including Brice Ouédraogo, former spokesperson for Burkinabè students in China and president of the ‘AJD-BF, initiative structure of the meeting, who said he was happy to share his experience with his student brothers and sisters.

The initiative was welcomed by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, through its project manager, Joël Avoué.o
