Bus commuters can save up to a third of the ticket price with the £2 scheme. Officials say that the movement of around two million cars that cause pollution on the road can be stopped from public roads. Post-Covid, the government’s efforts to connect public transport with people have been utilized by the vast majority. One hundred and thirty bus operators have signed agreements with the Department of Motor Vehicles in support of the scheme.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that it was decided to extend the duration of the two-pound scheme to help those who are suffering due to the rising cost of living. Rishi Sunak added that the current scheme will go a long way in preserving local bus routes and encouraging more people to board buses.

Transport Secretary Mark Harper has announced that the Government will invest £300 million in bus services over the next three years, which will be used to increase the number of bus services and reduce fares. Mark Harper added that this amount will be spent until 2025 to ensure service and improve services on important routes. After 31 October until 30 November 2024, the rate will change from £2 to £2.50. As announced now, the rates will be re-analyzed before November 2024 and changes will be made if necessary, government sources said.
