Singing: Tinkerers keep devices out of the trash

Singing – The Repair Café can certainly be viewed as a model of success. More and more people are paying attention to sustainability and having their electrical appliances repaired whenever possible. For the third time this year, the offer recently opened its doors in the rooms of the Free Evangelical Community on Freiburger Straße and was actively used.

“We had around 50 registrations again this time,” said Regina Henke, co-founder of the initiative. By registering, interested parties were given a time slot in which they could bring in their defective part. This ensured that the right experts were on site and that the waiting time was kept to a minimum. “We got vacuum cleaners in, but also sewing machines, a document shredder, a vacuum robot, a Thermomix and many other devices. There was even a bicycle that was successfully repaired,” says Henke. One of the hard-working helpers was Ernst Herz. “I was passionate about it from the start,” said the hobbyist. “My specialty is wristwatches, I can’t even remember how many I’ve repaired,” he said with a smile. Roland Losch sat in the seat next to him. “I’m the sewing machine expert,” he said.

That day wasn’t just about repairs, but also about getting together, meeting other people and having a chat while the technical patient was being treated. To make the waiting time pleasant, visitors were able to make themselves comfortable with coffee and cake. The food, like the repairs, was based purely on donations. Everyone gave what they thought was appropriate. Regina Henke and Claudia Rehling say that most of the visitors left with a smile on their faces because they were helped. The last opportunity to book an appointment at the Repair Café this year is on November 16th.
