Kolkata: Malayalee Bollywood singer Krishnakumar Kunnath alias KK (53) has passed away. He died during a concert in Kolkata. Heart attack is the leading cause of death. He was suffering from chest pain during a concert at Nazarul Manjil in Kolkata. When KK returned to the hotel room, he was confused. He was rushed to hospital but might not be rescued.
He has sung over 700 songs in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam. KK’s popular songs include Thadappu Thadappu from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Tamil song “Apadi Podu”, Devadas’ Dola Re Dola and Wo Lamhe’s “Kya Mujhe Pyar Hai”. The songs “Jane” and “Piya Aaye Na” from Aashiqui 2 were also picked up by the audience.
His wife is his childhood friend Jyoti Krishna. Son Nakul Krishna has sung on KK’s new album ‘Humsafari’.
‘Pal’, the first album released in 1999, was a huge hit. This album has received the Star Screen Award for Best Solo Album. Singer Kishore Kumar and music director R. D. Burman has also influenced KK. KK’s favorite singers are Hollywood singers Michael Jackson, Billy Joel and Brian Adams.
Krishnakumar Kunnath was born in Delhi to CS Nair and Kanakavalli, a Malayalee couple with Thrissur roots. He was educated at Mount St. Mary’s School in Delhi.
