Singapore’s New Technical Directive TD018: Impact on Wing Flexibility and Red Bull Racing Performance

A new technical directive, TD018, will come into force in Singapore, aimed at tightening control over the flexibility of wings. It is not yet clear whether this will somehow affect the balance of power, but Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff doubts that the new directive will slow down Red Bull Racing.

“It will be interesting,” Toto Wolff shared his opinion in Singapore. – We have already seen how Aston Martin took a step back following their wings became less mobile, but I don’t know the details of what this is connected with. Let’s wait and see how things develop.

I don’t know which team has the most flexible wings. Perhaps Red Bull, but we can talk regarding this if their cars suddenly go half a second slower. That would be great, but I don’t think it will happen.”

Nicholas Tombasis, director of the FIA’s single-seater racing series, is of the opinion that the introduction of the technical directive will not have a significant impact on the balance of power.

“I don’t think we’ll see a huge change,” Tombasis says. “Compared to other regulatory interventions we have made in the past, I don’t expect revolutionary changes this time.”
