An extraordinary pair of artists committed to reshaping French sculpture following World War II.
From their first meeting in 1946, Boisecq and Longuet followed parallel paths, exploring a personal synthesis between realism and abstraction, classical tradition and primitive expression. Despite maintaining separate workshops, Boisecq and Longuet worked for over three decades in parallel, clearly influencing and inspiring each other. This period was a period of deep exploration and innovation for both artists.
While Longuet had already established himself as a leading sculptor by the 1930s, his work following the end of the war led to a simplification of forms, placing particular emphasis on the relationship between sculpture and architecture. At the same time, Boisecq arrived in Paris from Algeria, with an amalgam of artistic influences resulting from her multicultural background.
The wide recognition of the work and the artistic value of the two artists came through retrospective exhibitions held in various museums in France during 2011-2012. The recent acquisition of their work by the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Dijon and the Center de Pompidou in Paris further cemented the legacy of Boisecq and Longuet, with the Center de Pompidou dedicating an entire museum room to the two artists.
