After publishing this message on Saturday on X (former Twitter), federal MP Simon Moutquin received a public wave of critical and outraged comments. Then threats appeared in his private messages. On Twitter, on TikTok, on Facebook. “There were homophobic comments, Islamophobic comments and death threats,” regrets the elected Ecolo who claims to see attacks coming from the extreme right.

On TikTok, Simon Moutquin published one of his recent interventions in federal parliament a few days ago. In this video clip which has more than 700,000 views, he declares that Israel “practices a policy of apartheid towards the Palestinians”. The post dates from before the Hamas offensive in Israel, but the comments came followingwards, probably in the wake of his tweet. Currently, the capsule has already received more than 1800 comments. But their number is increasing minute by minute.
Note that the majority of messages received publicly are messages of support and encouragement. Many users thank him for speaking out in favor of Palestinian rights. Another part follows the opposite path and descends into violence and verbal hatred.
