Escort Boys was filmed here in the heart of the Camargue. What do you remember from it?
Simon Ehrlacher : It was an incredible moment of life and work. Above all, we have become a group of friends, and we continue to update each other.
You paused your acting work between 2013 and 2020. Why?
I started in 2007 with the France 2 series, Heart Ocean, which was very popular. But I had the ambition to make cinema and the desire to make films with scenarios that spoke to me. On a shoot, I always give my all, but with TV films, it’s more random. Then I continued with More beautiful lifein 2020.
For what ?
The pause made me think. For seven years, I did odd jobs and struggled. Suddenly, you earn in two days what you usually earn in a month, so you calm down, you come back down, and you look on the bright side of things!
In the series, we see you riding a horse. Were you a rider when you were younger?
Yes, my grandfather had a horse. But more than climbing, it’s the connection with nature that thrills me, and the cowboy universe at the heart of the series that appeals to me…
You play a handsome, taciturn kid, already an escort at the start of the series to provide for his family, and who stays away from the group of friends…
For the purposes of the series, I had to blend in sparingly with the group, while I wanted to mess around with the other actors. My character is in the reserve.
One of the women you sleep with says, “ My husband gives me love. You, you fuck me “. Does this difference between performance and love speak to you?
Yes a lot. We always have this thing of wanting to be the best and to ensure. I think sexuality is not beautiful until it is linked to a connection of the heart that sublimates it. It might just be physical, but then it’s bland.
Your definition of masculinity?
In my construction, it was Marlon Brando. He was my icon as a comedian, a sort of epitome of masculinity; when a real person put his camera on him, it was animal!
Where do you see yourself in a year?
Talking to you regarding season 2, I hope!
Your projects since Escort Boys ?
Series Irresistible (Disney+). And there, I continue on Cat’s Eyes, an adaptation for TF1 of the manga by Tsukasa Hōjō. And if I am offered a good role in the cinema…
