Associated for just over a month, Simon Delestre and Olga van de Kruisheve are already making waves. Lorraine and the bay in which he believes enormously have today won the qualifier for the Grand Prix at the CSI 4*-W in Tetouan.

A few days before his departure for the European Championships, Simon Delestre announced that he had welcomed a new nugget, Olga van de Kruisheve, a nine-year-old Belgian mare entrusted to him by the Bouabid family. Yet newly formed, the couple wasted no time in making headlines and today won the major 1.50m event at the CSI 4*-W in Tetouan, Morocco. “I’ve been riding her for a short time, it’s only the third competition we’ve done together, and I have a very good feeling with her. It was interesting to see how she would behave today playing the clock and she jumped remarkably, I discover a little more regarding her each time. She has significant potential and we are counting on her for the future. His behavior was exemplary today and it bodes well for the rest of our common adventure”, rejoiced the Lorraine at the end of the event. It is therefore this daughter of the late El Torreo de Muze that the world number ten will ride on Sunday in the Grand Prix, as will be the case at El Jadida, another stage of the Morocco Royal Tour.

Simon Delestre is a regular on the Moroccan tour, to which he regularly takes his horses of the future. “But there are many other reasons that bring me back to Morocco every year. We have a lot of ties there, my father having been national coach for four years and having contributed to the team’s qualification for the Tokyo Olympics. This period allowed us to discover Morocco and the Moroccans, with whom we have a lot of chemistry. Beyond this aspect, my guideline is always to choose the best competitions for my horses, and in this, the MRT is a fantastic circuit and brings together all that is best from a point of view technical. Of course, there is the emotional side, but for me, what is most important is the quality of the competition”, added Simon Delestre, who can also be delighted with the performances of the riders from the Chev’El stable, of which he is the trainer. For good reason, Jeanne Sadran and her companion Antoine Ermann took third and fourth places, respectively on Kosmo van Hof ter Boone and Odin van’t Hanegoor. The Toulouse woman and her talented bay seem to be back on track, following a difficult final of the Nations Cups of the European Equestrian Federation (EEF) circuit, finished with eight points and one retirement. Before them, the Italian Giulia Martinengo Marquet placed second, eight tenths from the lead with Scuderia 1918 Quick and Easy 3.

For France, Nicolas Deseuzes and Emeric George, also regulars at this meeting in the Maghreb, placed eighth and twelfth respectively with Drugster des Forêts and Calisco de Terlong.

Tomorrow, the highlight of the day will be a 1.50m jump-off event… which Simon Delestre won last year with Tinka’s Hero Z!
