“We cannot continue talking about formalities or legal issues. This is a political problem, in which state institutions are hiding the real result of the elections, and there is a ruling elite that is in a state of denial, that does not want to accept the harsh reality of July 28, where more than 70% of the population voted against,” said Simon Calzadilla, national secretary general of the Movement for Venezuela.
In an interview with Mary Pili Hernández, Calzadilla added that “despite having been given direct instructions not to hand over the minutes to opposition witnesses, and in some cases not even to allow them to enter the voting centers, more than 90% of the minutes were collected, that is, the PSUV structure itself knows how the vote was and collaborated and contributed to things being done legally, contradicting the orders they had been given.”
Calzadilla hopes that “sooner rather than later, this state of denial that the ruling elite has will accept this new reality, and we will find a political solution to this situation, the victory of whoever really won will be recognized and we will go to a process of negotiation, of conversations, so that Venezuela can reconcile, unite and move forward.”
