Through resolution 010686 of July 5, 2023, the Ministry of National Education awarded the High Quality Accreditation to the Medicine program of the Simon Bolivar University.
The resolution bears the signatures of the Minister of National Education, Aurora Vergara Figueroa and the Vice Minister of Higher Education, Ana Carolina Quijano Valencia.
This is the mechanism through which the State adopts and makes public the recognition that academic peers make of the verification carried out by an institution, on the quality of its academic programs; and considers it an instrument for improving the quality of higher education in the country.
The resolution says in its recital that, “In the course of the High Quality Accreditation process, the Intersectoral Commission for Human Talent in Health, through Agreements numbers 010 and 043 of January 24, 2023 and 080 of March 8, 2023, issued a favorable opinion regarding the relationship Updated service teaching of the program, as evidenced in the SACES RC system”.
Regarding this recognition, the dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences of the Simón Bolívar University, José Rafael Consuegra Machado, highlighted the achievement of the Medicine program by receiving such important recognition. “with quality standards at the level of teaching, research, practice centers and updating the curriculum. It is the natural consequence of the effort that the university has made to offer a prestigious and high-quality program in all its areas”.
Consuegra Machado added that “This commits us much more to continue developing our activities with high quality standards. Hard work is being done to train and accredit professors in simulated medical training according to international standards and in the future, we hope to have a simulated clinic ready for all the programs of the Faculty of Health Sciences, in view of the world trend in the matter”.
The dean congratulated the director of the accredited program, Ricardo Escobar Gaviria, and the entire team that achieved this achievement, including students, professors, researchers, and also graduates.
The first qualified record of the program was obtained through Resolution 2537 of May 30, 2006, starting classes in the second period of the same year. The first cohort of the Medicine program graduated in July 2012, registering to date 1,271 graduate students in 22 graduate cohorts.
More than 10 research groups categorized by Minciencias participation in intersectoral work tables, inter and multidisciplinary work in extension and social projection, which aims to promote the development of communities, are part of the benefits offered by the program to the Caribbean region and the country.
