It is one more step towards the realization of the great Simandou project that Winning Consortium Simandou has just taken by building the DK10 bridge, the inauguration of which was made this Monday in Yindi, in the sub-prefecture of Maferinya, prefecture of Forécariah. This bridge, which cost regarding four million dollars (4,000,000 USD) built over 8 months, crosses the Mamkudu River and is 247 meters long with a width of 220 meters and a maximum depth of 6.5 meters.
The construction of the access road bridge to PK 11 of the Simandou project railway demonstrates Winning Consortium Simandou’s desire to develop the Simandou project, which the CNRD has made a priority.
“We are delighted to be here today, on this International Workers’ Day, to celebrate the inauguration of the access road bridge to PK 11 of the Simandou project railway. Under the leadership of the Guinean government and with strong will and dedication, WCS has just completed the construction of this bridge ready to be put into service, thus demonstrating our determination to develop the Simandou project. Since the relaunch of the Simandou project in March 2023, despite the tight financing conditions, WCS has made every effort to continue this critical work, in particular the Mamkudu river bridges. The infrastructure above the Mamkudu River consists of two separate bridges: one for the access road, the other for the railway axis. The commissioning of this bridge lays a solid foundation for the full completion of all railway access roads. The pillars next to it are part of the railway bridge, the submerged part of this structure will be completed soon,” explained Mr. Wu Qiong, General Coordinator of Winning Consortium Simandou.
A little later in his speech, Mr. Wu Qiong underlined the firm will of the consortium to work with Guineans to transmit to them knowledge and skills in this field.
“We (WCS) are more than ever committed to working with local partners, sharing our knowledge and transferring our skills to Guinean employees in order to create lasting value in Guinea and benefit the people of Guinea for generations,” said added the WCS coordinator, confident regarding the outcome of the Simandou project within the framework of a win-win agreement for the stakeholders.
Present at the inauguration ceremony of the bridge, the Minister of Mines and Geology assured that the strategic committee will continue to provide support to industrial partners in the realization of the Simandou project.
“We, at the Simandou strategic committee, are not going to wait for the project to be 100% executed. We are going to proceed milestone by milestone, follow all the stages of this project in order to allow the consulting engineers of the State to carry out a collective validation of the gigantic infrastructures of this project (…). The strategic committee will continue to provide assistance to industrial partners for a convergence of their respective interests,” said Mr. Moussa Magassouba, closing the speeches dedicated to the ceremony.
Thus, following having cut the ribbon of the inauguration thus allowing the putting into circulation of the bridge, Djiba Diakité, the minister director of cabinet of the presidency, reassured that this time the Simandou project will be carried out in the interest of the Guineans.
“This structure will make it possible to transport by land all the equipment necessary for the realization of the project. It is in the vision of the Head of State that we are continuing, we are also increasing the monitoring on the ground to ensure the effectiveness of this revival. This time, as you can see, it’s a raise that’s different from other raises. There we are relaunching under the banner of the Trans-Guinean Company, which is a joint venture between industrial partners and the State. We can be convinced that Simandou will be realized in the best interests of the people of Guinea,” said the man who chairs the Strategic Monitoring Committee for the Simandou project.
