New jetties and cool swimming platforms create even more space on Vienna’s most beautiful natural body of water.
Vienna (OTS) – Finally summer temperatures! The City of Vienna used the months before the bathing season to create new offers for those seeking relaxation in Vienna’s natural bathing paradise. And so four new, up to 30 m long bathing jetties were built on the Upper Old Danube as spacious sunbathing areas. But that’s not all: the first of a total of five other new swimming platforms is ready and available for bathers. “We are constantly making Vienna’s natural bathing waters and recreational areas more attractive and expanding,” says City Councilor Ulli Sima, who is responsible for Vienna’s waters, looking forward to the 2023 bathing season. , says Sima. District Manager Georg Papai is also enthusiastic regarding the new offers: “With the new bathing jetties, the local recreation area around the Old Danube is even easier to use for Floridsdorf residents. Free access to water is an important concern for me in our family-friendly district.”
Four new bathing jetties for better entry into the cool water
The four new bathing jetties completed at the end of April on the Upper Old Danube near Fultonstraße are not only a visual highlight, they also make it easier for bathers to get into the water. Because the shore is very flat in this area, an existing stone throw along the shore line made access into the water difficult. The jetty structures with an extended platform consist of steel frames and are fitted with larch wood decking.
The embankment in the bank area was rehabilitated in advance
Before the construction of the new jetties, the entire embankment area on the banks of the Upper Old Danube was renovated over a length of approx. 400 m. This area was partially built up. After the paving was demolished, the areas were planted and, where necessary, the existing bank wall was renovated. Three new table-bench combinations for lounging around were also set up, and the entire seating furniture was fitted with new wood coverings. In autumn 2023, drought-resistant trees, including elms, Turkey oaks and ash trees, will be planted there.
Five new swim platforms
In addition to the new jetties, a new swimming platform was also released for bathers. A further four plants are still in the works and will be gradually completed by the beginning of July. The new platforms are steel floats anchored to the existing seawall. Two of the former small jetties were connected to each other for this purpose. The wooden lying areas extend to the shore area and thus create additional space in the popular leisure paradise.
