Yesterday, 162,000 visitors flocked to all 17 markets during extended opening hours and experienced a colorful show program
Vienna (OTS) – Huge crowds at Vienna’s markets! As in the previous year, Vienna experienced the “Long Night of the Viennese Markets” at the end of the holiday season – and it was an even greater success! In addition to the extended opening hours until 11 p.m., all 17 markets offered more than 100 hours of show acts for young and old. 162,000 visitors used the last Friday evening before school starts to watch the hustle and bustle, go shopping or just be entertained. Last year, 82,000 people took advantage of the premiere to enjoy a relaxing evening at Vienna’s markets.
The market stallholders were happy regarding the lively interest of numerous customers, the many artists regarding an enthusiastic audience. Market councilor Ulli Sima thanks the dedicated market standers and of course the employees of the market office who organized this great event: “I am delighted that so many people took advantage of such a cool offer and that we, with 162,000 visitors* can draw such an impressive balance sheet inside! The Long Night of the Markets will probably become a fixed point in the late summer calendar.” NEOS market spokesman Markus Ornig adds: “Both the premiere last year and this year have shown that the Viennese* are enthusiastic regarding the Long Night of the Markets are. All the more gratifying is the fact that our former demand will now become an annual tradition. That makes me happy for all visitors, but especially for all participating markets and market stallholders, to whom I would also like to say a special thank you for their commitment.”
More than 100 hours of live performances – 200 gift baskets raffled
Whether LED, cooking and dog shows, for the smallest market visitors there was the Kasperl and a bouncy castle, readings and book presentations and other acts: A total of more than 100 appearances by various artists and show acts made the event on September 1st a happy one Flair. The Marktamtsmuseum in Floridsdorf was also open during the Long Night of the Markets and might be visited free of charge at any time.
The first 1,000 visitors* were able to pick up one of the coveted fabric bags at the Viennese markets at the market office stands. Anyone who had already visited 2 markets by 9:30 p.m. and stamped a participation card accordingly might take part in the raffle for the gift baskets at each market. With a bit of luck you (woman) went home with one of the 200 gift baskets full of great market products.
