Silvina Luna it’s found admitted to intensive care in a health center in the City of Buenos Aires. The model and actress suffers from renal disease who forces her to do dialysis three times a week and is waiting for a kidney transplant.

“Unfortunately, and we checked with her doctors and with the people at the Italian hospital, Silvina Luna is admitted to intensive care, she is sedated and is on a respirator. She is accompanied by her brother and the people who love her, ”reported the journalist Ángel De Brito, before the end of her program on the América channel.

Luna suffered methacrylate poisoning, a substance that entered her bloodstream and caused a chronic condition of hypercalcemia (high calcium level) and kidney failure, as a result of a cosmetic operation performed by Aníbal Lotocki in 2011.

The diagnosis put her on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. But, at the same time, she was being treated for a bacterium that she had in her blood and that made surgery impossible.

Silvina Luna was already admitted to the Italian hospital at the beginning of June, where she underwent dialysis and a treatment to solve the damage caused by the bacteria.

Silvina Luna and the path to a kidney transplant

Weeks ago, Silvina had uploaded to Instagram, from the same hospital, a video with encouraging news. “I came to hospital because the results of the biopsy of the mycobacteria came out and, finally, it was possible to detect which are the specific remedies that I have to take,” said the actress then.

And for more details, she explained how the treatment is with the new remedies: “There are two, so I’m trying them now, hospitalized, to see if I tolerate them and if everything is fine.” “For now, everything is perfectSo I’m happy with that,” she was pleased.

Relieved because of the important step she was able to take in order to recover her health, Silvina Luna announced: “I have already started another path that I am excited regarding, which is the path to combat this bacterium and the road to transplant“.

Finally, in that video Silvina had expressed: “I wanted to tell everyone who is there waiting, those who ask me and those who send me prayers and words of affection. So thank you, and we continue there, with strength. Not to give up on anyone who is in a similar situation”.

What disease does Silvina Luna have?

After an aesthetic treatment with malpractice, Silvina Luna suffers from a serious illness that forces her to do dialysis three times a week. She suffered methacrylate poisoning, a substance that entered her bloodstream and caused a chronic condition of hypercalcemia (high calcium level) and renal insufficiency. The diagnosis put her on the waiting list for a kidney transplant. But, at the same time, she is being treated for a bacterium that she has in her blood and this makes surgery impossible.

“Chronic renal failure is mainly generated by a harmful lifestyle. It is the progressive deterioration of renal function for more than 3 months. This organ is in charge of filtering the blood in order to produce urine, but when it is damaged, its functional unit (glomerulus) is destroyed internally. The kidney can fail chronically or acutely. Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure are the two most common causes,” says Gabriel Lapman, a nephrologist and author of the book “Reset. Lifestyle medicine”, in dialogue with Clarion.

Currently, 5,511 Argentines are waiting for a kidney transplant, according to INCUCAI data. According to the Terminal Chronic Renal Insufficiency Registry, nearly 30,000 patients are on dialysis. Renal disease has the possibility of replacement treatment by dialysis and transplantation.

“Silvina Luna had a kidney problem because the methacrylate, which is a plastic, covered the entire filter (nephron) that the kidney has naturally. So it no longer works and can no longer filter the blood to produce urine,” explained Fernando Cichero, medical director of the Manuel Rocca rehabilitation hospital.

what is the hypercalcemia? “The fact that the kidneys do not work properly and end up on dialysis causes chronic hypercalcemia because there is a hormone that is missing in the diseased kidney and cannot control renal metabolism,” he said.
