An event that caused shock within Asian horse racing was the one that occurred last week, when the Hong Kong Jockey Club suspended the Brazilian jockey for ten months Silvestre De Sousathree times champion in Great Britain.

De Sousa, 42, had ridden the horse Satirical Glory on April 26 at the racetrack in Happy Valley, with which he got eleventh place. In that same competition, his compatriot Vagner Borges was on the back of Young Brilliant who finished in seventh place.

What happened was that De Sousa made it easier for Borges for the latter to bet himself with Young Brilliant. The commissioners decided to sanction De Sousa with the aforementioned ten months but with Borges they were stricter and the suspension against him is one year.

Despite not having a gambling history, De Sousa will appeal the penalty and despite having pleaded guilty along with Borges, he is surprised by the sentence handed down by the equestrian judges. His career is full of different episodes: he was an apprentice champion in Brazil at the age of 18, he managed to ride with Godolphinone of the most powerful stables in the world but their interventions have not been constant on different tracks in Europe and Asia.
