RACER Fernando Alonso believes his performance at the British Grand Prix at the Silverstone Circuit last weekend can increase the confidence of his team, Aston Martin, which in the first half of this season has had difficulty finding its best performance.

According to Alonso, the double points score by him and Lance Stroll at the team’s home race can provide a boost for the squad heading into the next race on the 2024 season calendar.

“To run the race without any problems is a success. Of course (it gives a boost to the team), because both cars managed (to score) points,” said Alonso, quoted from the official Formula 1 website, Wednesday.

“It’s not easy because there are many possibilities to not finish (DNF), crash, even a big mistake in tire selection, and so on,” he continued.

Alonso collected 4 points by finishing eighth in the race held on Sunday (7/7). While his teammate Lance Stroll was in seventh place with 6 points.

Alonso highlighted how the British GP was a turning point for the team following two challenging weekends in Spain and Austria.

The two-time world champion continued, the team’s positive trend was shown since the first day of the British GP, where he and Stroll were getting closer to the top of the timesheets in the practice sessions.

Following some ups and downs for Aston Martin throughout the season so far, Alonso is hoping the team can get to know their technical package better.

He highlighted this so that the team might appear with a sense of optimism entering the next races in Hungary and Belgium.

“I think we understand some mistakes we maybe made in Barcelona and Austria,” said Alonso.

“We regrouped following Austria, and we wanted to do better in our home Grand Prix, in front of our people, in our factory here (UK). So I’m happy with seventh and eighth for the team. It’s a good boost for Hungary and Spa,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Formula 1 series this season will take place on July 19-21 at the Hungaroring Circuit, Hungary. (Ant/P-5)
