Silver that tastes like gold in Thiais

Among the flags of the famous rhythmic gymnastics powers of Europe, the banner of Mexico emerged in a ceremony a few kilometers from what will be the epicenter of universal sport in a few more months.

A frenetic closing in the standings left the Mexican team in second place in mixed exercise, a silver medal with a gold flavor at the Grand Prix of Rhythmic Gymnastics in Thiais, France.

Five months before the Paris Olympic Games, most of the powers showed their routines at the Omnisport in Thiais.

The gold medal went to the favorite team from France, with scores of 32,400 in ball and ribbon. The tricolors added 30,700 and those of Uzbekistan, who were among the powerful in the entire event, received qualifications for third with 30,550.

The Mexican team led by Blajaith Aguilar is made up of six gymnasts, three of them from Yucatecan, Adirem Tejeda Amaro, Dalia Alcocer Piña and Julia Gutiérrez Pereyra, along with Sofía Flores, Karla Díaz and Kimberly Salazar.

The silver among the world powers is one of Mexico’s most important achievements in group rhythmics, now that the groups are getting ready for their premiere at the Olympic Games in Paris next August.

Those selected will travel to Mexico today for what will be their last stay at home, before leaving for camps and competitions, in the final preparations for the Paris Olympic Games.— Gaspar Silveira Malaver
