Silo-bag helps Bahia producer to overcome storage deficit
Record harvests and storage deficit are recurring issues when it comes to national agribusiness, especially in grain production. Despite being an essential step in the agricultural production chain, Brazil still faces this great challenge. According to the National Supply Company (Conab), since 2001 the national storage capacity has been lower than the amount produced and the country has managed to store only regarding 14% of a harvest, a historical problem that continues to worsen, causing that the producer opts for the silo-bag.
Solution from the Silox brand, from the Nortène Group, the silo-bag, has guaranteed safety for farmers in recent harvests and allows them to conserve 250,000 bags of grain until the best time for marketing
This lag makes daily work in the field difficult, such as harvesting and logistics, and can generate losses related to the best sales team. One of the ways to get around the problem is to rely on safe options such as silos-bags. The tool brings numerous advantages in relation to metallic silos, which are the most popular, or those made of concrete, wood, among others.
Practicality
The most obvious are practicality and cost-effectiveness. While a traditional silo requires time to be ready, licensing, work and high installation costs, the bag silo brings the storage solution almost immediately to the need. It can be installed anywhere on the farm, even closer to the fields, in addition to the possibility of segmenting the products, separating them by lot, by date, by grain quality and even staggering production.
The rural producer Diego Di Domenico, with farms that grow soy, cotton, corn and sorghum in São Desidério and Formosa do Rio Preto, in Bahia, is a fan of the silo-bag. Three years ago, he acquired the Silox brand product, from the Nortène Group, and since then he has used to store practically all of his soy production in the solution. Between the past and current harvests, there are already around 250,000 packed bags. “In the past we had problems with the deficit, so we structured ourselves”, he recalls.
Acquisition according to demand
At the São Miguel Farm alone, with four thousand hectares of soybeans and corn, at the moment there are around five thousand bags of soybeans in the silo-bag. “We buy on demand, if the crop increases we know we can count on this alternative. And we can place it anywhere on the farm, close to the fields, as for the metal silo, we have to take the loads to it”, explains the farmer.
Another advantage for the areas of Di Domenico, totaling 25,000 hectares, is that production can be stored for as long as necessary. “I can leave four, five, seven months, even a year, without worrying. You keep the grain, you can sell it in the future, or if you need to mix it, you can open it, remove the quantity and close it”, he adds.
additional security
Traditional silos are also present on Diego’s properties, which manages to store more than 100,000 bags in four structures built on one of his farms. However, even with such a capacity, silos-bags safely complement the storage of crops. “Sometimes there isn’t enough time to dry, the harvest is ready, our silos don’t supply all the needs, so we put them in silo-bags and we don’t have a headache”, points out the producer from Bahia.
