Silesia Stirs: PLK Enters New Phase, Anwil Reigns Supreme

88

The Sunday ending the first round with the ORLEN Basket League was quite painful for the participants of our #SuperEkspertPLK game. No one predicted Śląsk’s defeat in Gliwice. Nobody bet on MKS winning away in Warsaw! Additionally, only four out of 20 participants believed in Spółdzielnia Andrej Urlep before her match on the hot ground in Słupsk.

But even the impressive victory of the fourth force of last season, PLK, did not convince many to bet on Sjejnia’s victory before the clash with the current Polish champion, Trefl Sopot, scheduled for round 2. It just broke off Rafał Tymińskithe first co-leader of the general classification.

– Łukasz Koszarek, over the years of playing in European cups, has developed a theory that Polish teams with stronger rivals can usually win in Europe at the beginning of the season, when the opponents are not yet at full strength. I am transferring the rule to Poland, before the Trefl-Sbójnia match, explains the journalist of “Przegląd Sportowy”. – First of all: who should Spółnia focus on, if not the Polish champion? Secondly, I also take the “Koszarek principle” to myself, because in order to gain an advantage in betting, you have to look for non-obvious results – ones that no one will get. Thirdly, joking slightly – I chose the match with Spokojnia because… I am consistent. While recently preparing the basketball Fan’s Treasure for “Przegląd Sportowy”, I allowed the printer’s imp to speak. It resulted in as many as six stars appearing at Spółnia in the number of stars used to assess the strength of teams. More than with King, Śląsk, Trefl or Anwil… Chochlik was captured, but before he is charged, he gets a few weeks from me to prove that he wasn’t so wrong – laughs Tymiński.

Sunday’s high defeat (as much as 73:91!) of the winners of the Polish Super Cup from Wrocław against GTK in Gliwice was a shock for many.

“They passed the match, a massacre, a tragedy. I’m surprised that Miodrag Rajković somehow he survived it and there was no outburst on his part,” he commented bluntly Piotr Karolak.

However, #SuperEkspertPLK participants are convinced that it was just an accident at work in the case of Wrocław residents. Before Wednesday’s match against Arka in Gdynia (7 p.m., nazwa.tv), almost unanimously – as many as 19 out of 20 – expect the guests to win.

– The people of Wrocław will get up and win against Arka because… they have no other choice. Let’s not forget that Śląsk’s defeat against GTK also confirms the “Koszarka principle” about weaker players winning against better ones. Maybe if WKS were to face Andrej Urlep’s six-star Spółnia now, I would change my mind. Miodrag Rajkovic’s team will cope with Arka, Tymiński predicts.

Other interesting matches of the second round? The table at such an early stage of the season can sometimes be deceptive, but it is impossible not to notice the scheduled time. 15.30 Saturday’s match between the leader (Anwil) and the runner-up (Dziki). According to the vast majority of journalists, there is only one favorite here – the team from Włocławek.

However, our experts’ predictions for Friday’s match in Lublin, in which Start will face Legia, which is not impressive at the moment, are strongly divided.

– In the Orlen Basket League there are only interesting, very interesting and extremely interesting matches. The clash from the latter category will definitely be the clash between Wojciech Kamiński and Legia? Several years of work of this coach in the Warsaw team and his huge participation in the “Rebirth of Power” are taking their toll, and now he will have to face it. Kamiński has participated in all of Legia’s modern achievements, but on Friday, for the well-being of his current employer, but also for his own satisfaction, he will want to prove that Legia is not the same without him. It won’t be easy for him, hence my bet on Start winning only after overtime, but I think Start’s coach will get his way. I expect that his team will “styranize” Legia under the basket, says Tymiński.

This season, we have also added the opportunity to choose the best “sniper of the queue” to our fun. In the first series, he scored the most points in a match against his former club Łukasz Kolendasetting a new career record (32). None of the bettors expected this. Who is Tymiński betting on before the second series?

– Already Loren Jackson! In my opinion, there will come a moment in the Black team’s match in Ostrów when both teams will start “sending” three-pointers, and the short, fast and agile Jackson will take part of the Słupsk shots and start hitting them again and again. I also considered Łukasz Kolenda and Andrzej Pluta in this category, although it seems to me that in their case their individual achievements will not translate into team victories – says Tymiński.

What are all journalists’ predictions for the second round? You can check below. We see several matches with single indications of one of the teams. They broke out:

Michał Wódecki (TwoUp BBal) is the only one who expects Śląsk’s defeat in Gdynia.

Miłosz Romański (Gazeta Wyborcza Trójmiasto) is counting on another surprise in the clash with last season’s medalist, GTK, and his victory in Szczecin.

Piotr Janczarczyk (Chanas Zone) expects a sensational victory for the Dziki Krzysztof Szablowski i Janariego Joesaara in the well-known Hall of Champions in Włocławek.
