2:45 am: “Signs” of Ukrainian counter-offensive
During a daily update, a US official at the Department of Defense indicated that:
– the Russian forces engaged in Ukraine (150,000 soldiers at the start of the invasion) have decreased by around 10% in one month, taking into account the dead, wounded and various logistical problems.
– There is currently no sign of sending massive reinforcements.
– Moscow has few reserves in terms of battalion tactical groups (infantry and armour), with 75% of the available Russian manpower sent to Ukraine, but might rely on Russian mercenaries and foreign fighters (from Belarus, in particular).
– Even if Washington cannot confirm that Ukraine has taken over the western suburbs of kyiv (Makariv), there are “signs” of Ukrainian counter-offensives, particularly in the south of the country.
