Signs of a revolution in obesity treatment…a new drug to lose weight without annoying side effects!

If successful, this treatment may compete with famous drugs, such as “Wegovi” and “Mojaro,” which have already changed the future of obesity treatment and helped millions of people around the world to lose weight. Despite the effectiveness of these two drugs, they often cause side effects, such as nausea, which makes some patients unable to continue using them.

Early studies show that this drug works by activating certain cells in the nervous system, neurokinin 2 receptors (NK2R), which play an essential role in regulating energy balance and controlling blood sugar levels.

It was found that activating these cells in mice contributed to increasing calorie burning and effectively reducing appetite, without causing any annoying symptoms such as nausea. This method may also prevent loss of muscle mass, a potential side effect of current treatments.

In subsequent studies on primates with type 2 diabetes and obesity, it was shown that activation of these receptors led to reduced body weight and improved insulin sensitivity, as well as reduced blood sugar, triglyceride and cholesterol levels.

Scientists said these findings represent a “huge step forward” in developing new drug treatments for patients with obesity and type 2 diabetes.

“While treatments based on GLP-1 (a natural hormone produced in the intestines after eating and plays an important role in regulating blood sugar levels) have revolutionized the treatment of obesity and type 2 diabetes,” explained Zach Gerhart-Hines, associate professor of metabolic research. Safely harnessing energy and controlling appetite without causing nausea remain major goals in this field. “We believe our discovery will contribute to making treatments more tolerable and effective, providing opportunity for millions of patients around the world.”

The study was published in the journal Nature.
