Lhe first memorandum was signed by the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines (ONHYM) represented by its Director General Amina Benkhadra, the National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited “NNPC” represented by its CEO Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari and the Mauritanian Hydrocarbons Company “SMH” represented by its general manager Tourad Abdel Baghi, according to a joint press release from the signatories.
The second memorandum was signed by ONHYM, the NNPC represented and the Senegalese Petroleum Holding Company “PETROSEN Holding” represented by its general manager Adama Diallo, the joint press release specifies.
“These memoranda of understanding confirm the commitment of the parties to this strategic project which, once completed, will supply gas to all the countries of West Africa and will also allow a new way of alternative export to Europe »says the same source.
“This gas pipeline will run along the West African coast from Nigeria to Morocco, passing, among other places, through Senegal and Mauritania, where it will be connected to the Maghreb-Europe gas pipeline and from there to the European gas network”details the press release.
Launched during a visit by King Mohammed VI to Abuja in 2016, the realization of the 6,000 km long Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline megaproject will cost around 25 billion dollars. The two countries are still looking for suppliers to provide the financing component.
