ALGIERS- A memorandum of understanding was signed, Thursday in Algiers, between the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production and the Qatari company “Baladna” for the construction of an integrated infant milk production plant in Algeria.

This memorandum of understanding was signed by the Director General of Industrial Development at the Ministry of Industry, Amel Allame, and the delegate member of the Qatari company “Baladna”, Ramez Al Khayyat, in the presence of the Ministers of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, of Agriculture and Rural Development, Youcef Cherfa and of Finance, Laaziz Faid, in addition to the Director General of Customs, Abdelhafid Bakhouche.

Also present at the signing ceremony were the Qatari Ambassador to Algeria, Abdulaziz Ali Al-Naama, the Director General (DG) of the National Investment Fund (FNI), Kamel Mansouri, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatari company “Baladna”, Mohamad Moutaz Al-Khayyat.

This memorandum aims to integrate infant milk into a powdered milk production project to be carried out in the wilaya of Adrar, in accordance with a framework agreement signed last April between the Ministry of Agriculture and the Qatari company.

This ceremony was preceded by the signing of a partnership agreement between the FNI and the company “Baladna” for the production of infant milk.

The document was signed by the Director General of Agricultural Investment and Land at the ministry, Souad Assaous, and Al-Khayyat.

It should be noted that the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, Ali Aoun, received, on Thursday in Algiers, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatari company “Baladna”, Mohamad Moutaz Al-Khayyat, with whom he discussed the project of building a baby milk production plant.

During the meeting, Mr. Aoun stressed the importance of this “vital” project, noting the imperative of complying with international quality standards in this area.

The minister also expressed “the availability of his ministerial department to support the project and provide the necessary support and facilities for its success, in coordination with the various sectors concerned,” according to a press release from the Ministry of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production.
