Significantly more than 30 degrees: storms are followed by summer heat

Storms once more caused serious damage in Tyrol. However, these may have been the last for the time being. Now summer is coming back.

This time Tyrol was particularly affected. Heavy storms descended on the Holy Land on Tuesday evening. The Stubaital was particularly affected. In Fulpmes, the bridge over the Omesbach was torn away by masses of water, the police said.

In Kirchbichl (Kufstein district), an 18-year-old had several guardian angels: A tree fell on the roof of his car, and the driver was only slightly injured. In the meantime, in the Kaunertal in the Tyrolean Oberland, another mudslide went down on the Kaunertal Glacier Road at the level of the Rödgarten channel. A 19-year-old driver was trapped there between two mudslides on Saturday evening. No vehicles or people were buried this time.

Severe storms also fell in Upper Austria, especially in the districts of Braunau, Vöcklabruck, Gmunden and Kirchdorf. Boats had to be salvaged on Lake Attersee and Lake Mondsee, and a sailing boat capsized on Lake Irrsee. In Oberwang and Altmünster, lightning struck an inn and a house.

Such storms should be over for the time being. Geosphere meteorologist Alexander Ohms says calm and very warm summer weather will set in at least through the middle of next week, with no severe thunderstorms and severe weather. The temperatures will sometimes climb to well over 30 degrees.

Actually it gets a little too warm for this time of the year. But August still has a lot to make up for, says the meteorologist. So far, the month has been far too cool and rainy. The average temperatures in August are currently around two degrees below the long-term average temperatures.

From next Wednesday, however, the temperatures will slowly drop once more, the weather will be changeable and autumn is likely to announce itself slowly.
