Nouakchott – Two Memoranda of Understanding on the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline were signed on Saturday in Nouakchott, respectively between Morocco, Nigeria and Mauritania on the one hand and Morocco, Nigeria and Senegal on the other hand.

The first memorandum was signed by the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines “ONHYM” represented by its Director General Mrs. Amina Benkhadra, the National Nigerian Petroleum Company Limited “NNPC” represented by its Group CEO Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari and the Mauritanian Company of Hydrocarbons “SMH” represented by its Managing Director Mr. Tourad Abdel Baghi, according to a joint press release from the signatories.

The second memorandum was signed by ONHYM represented by Ms. Amina Benkhadra, NNPC represented by Mallam Mele Kolo Kyari and the Holding Société des Pétroles du Sénégal “PETROSEN Holding” represented by its Managing Director Mr. Adama Diallo, specifies the joint press release. .

These Memoranda of Understanding confirm the commitment of the Parties within the framework of this strategic project which, once completed, will supply gas to all the countries of West Africa and will also allow a new export route. alternative to Europe, underlines the same source.

This gas pipeline will run along the West African coast from Nigeria to Morocco, passing, among others, through Senegal and Mauritania, where it will be connected to the Maghreb Europe Gas Pipeline and from there to the European gas network, details the press release.

This infrastructure will contribute to the improvement of the living conditions of the populations, the integration of the economies of the sub-region and the mitigation of desertification thanks to a sustainable and reliable supply of gas respecting the new commitments of the continent in terms of protection. environment, the statement said.
