The installation of this new factory, dedicated to industrial automation (robotization of production processes), which represents an investment of 200 million euros, had for a time been envisaged in China.

The German industrial giant Siemens will invest 2 billion euros to expand its production capacities in the world, with a new factory which will be installed in Singapore to the detriment of China, where the group nevertheless plans massive investments. “Siemens presents an investment strategy including 2 billion euros for new production capacities” and “a new high-tech factory in Singapore to serve the markets of Southwest Asia”, according to a press release.

The installation of this new factory, dedicated to industrial automation (robotization of production processes), which represents an investment of 200 million euros, had for a time been envisaged in China. But the will of Siemens not to depend too much on this market has finally weighed, according to the economic daily Handelsblatt. The company has been criticized in Germany for several months for its heavy dependence on China, while tensions around the island of Taiwan and the war in Ukraine have exacerbated geopolitical risks.

“Singapore is a beacon of stability, a smart and connected nation,” company CEO Roland Busch said during a talk on the LinkedIn platform on Thursday.

Expansion of activity in China and the United States

Despite this desire for diversification, Siemens will continue to expand its business in China. The group plans to invest 140 million euros in its factory in Chengdu (center), China, specializing in industry 4.0 (digitization of industrial processes), with the creation of 400 jobs. A new research and development center will be launched in Shenzhen (east).

The company will finally expand its production capacities in the United States, with an investment of 220 million to build a new factory for its transport division in Lexington, North Carolina, to “meet the growing demand for trains” in the country.

An investment of 500 million euros in research on “the metaverse” and “artificial intelligence” will also be mobilized. The group recently signed a partnership with Microsoft to use ChatGPT to “accelerate computer code generation” in its production process.
