This document will constitute the conceptual guidelines for the architectural space, promoting a coherent and sustainable approach to urban development, while guaranteeing harmonious aesthetics, optimal functionality and consideration of environmental issues.

The Sidi Ganem Industrial Zone’s architectural charter is being developed. In fact, the Marrakech Urban Administration is studying this project. Located in the Menara district, next to the National Road 7 that connects Marrakech to Safi, the Sidi Ganem Industrial Zone is an important industrial platform in the city. “Sidi Ganem has always been the engine of Marrakech’s industrial growth, home to a variety of businesses, from artisanal production to manufacturing, and providing a wide range of services. However, it is necessary to rethink its architectural aspects to meet the requirements of urban integration and sustainable development,” said the source, noting that “in the face of these challenges, it is imperative to develop an architectural charter for the Sidi Ganem Industrial Zone. This charter will constitute a conceptual guide for the architectural space, promoting a coherent and sustainable approach to urban development, while guaranteeing harmonious aesthetics, optimal functionality and consideration of environmental issues. The charter will help enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of the area while improving the quality of life of users.

According to the same source, it is a reference guidance document aimed at architects, urban planners and developers (public and private), developers, elected officials and users. It is an indicative awareness and reference document whose purpose is to promote the emergence of quality urban and architectural landscapes,” said the Marrakech Urban Agency. It continued: “This document aims to raise awareness among the various stakeholders about architectural choices, provide them with advice and information, and offer them a path of reflection to monitor architectural production. This document complements the library of legal and technical norms that are essential to control the development of the built environment and improve the quality of architecture in the area’s urban landscape. According to the Marrakech Urban Agency, some problems have been identified in the industrial area, in particular the lack of visual coherence, the imbalance between solid and void, monotonous or overloaded facades, the use of low-quality materials, the diversity of styles, the differences in windows and signs, the lack of signage, and the inadequacy and insufficiency of street furniture.

In addition to this, it is also necessary to review the mobility and accessibility of the area. As part of the project, among other things, it involves working on the coherence and harmony of the architecture, improving the attractiveness of the area, preserving the characteristic elements that constitute the quality of the built environment, promoting innovation or respecting the environment through the use of sustainable materials and integrating plant elements. Please note that the Sidi Ghanem Industrial Zone covers an area of 175 hectares. It includes 535 plots.

The Marrakech Urban Administration explains: “The project was created in 1984 on land in Habous, acquired by ERAC, with the aim of relocating the city’s industries, mainly located in the Azil Industrial Zone, to the north, away from tourist, public and residential spaces. In 2008, the area of the zone was expanded to 17.5 hectares, including 34 industrial plots and 12 activity plots, to meet the needs of existing industrialists to expand their activities.
