“Silver Crane Nights” traditionally invites not only cinema lovers, but members of the creative team of the presented films to a trip around Lithuania, who interact with the audience and answer their questions. During each evening, you are invited to spend a few hours surrounded by quality cinema with four films, including the categories of feature films, animations, short films and student works.

The events this year are accompanied by two presenters – Sandra Daukšaitė-Petrulėnė and Emilija Latėnaitė, who often appear on theater and film stages and on television screens. According to E. Latėnaitė, viewers in different cities of Lithuania eagerly await film screenings, actively communicate with creators, and also create new experiences.

“I am very happy to visit some towns for the first time. We feel that the film programs are welcome, the audience is engaged in listening to my conversations with the creators, and together we experience the town’s film festival. By the way, I haven’t seen all the films either – we watch them together with viewers from different cities, so I associate the tapes with a specific evening and place. It is very good to become a part of this community event”, says E. Latėnaitė.

This year, the festival promises to show more than 10 Lithuanian films throughout Lithuania. One of them is “Tušinukas”, which was evaluated in the “Silver Crane” short film category, which the audience will be able to see in Jonava and Klaipėda.

According to the director of the film, Ada Burkšaitis, the film is regarding a graduate student who dreams of studying at Cambridge University, and the film was also inspired by personal experiences.

“I graduated from Cambridge with a bachelor’s degree in computer science. When I entered, I had to do well in the exams, I felt the stress of the exams and the need to meet the criteria. Then it seemed that in the event of failure, the whole world would slide out from under our feet. After a long time, I return to these topics and look for a more stable basis than the exam grade,” says the director.

Well-known actors Rasa Samuolytė and Vaidotas Martinaitis also play in the movie “Tušinukas”. “The actors paid a lot of attention to the preparation, so we had time to discuss the ideas of the film, discuss the motivations of the characters and even solve math problems,” says A. Burkšaitis.

Upcoming movie screenings: in Jonava and Klaipėda

July 19 the festival will visit Jonava. Viewers will be able to see the films “Number One”, “The One Who Knows”, “Pušinuka” and “You Don’t Remind Me of Anything”.

July 25 the festival will visit Klaipėda, which is celebrating the Sea Festival. The evening will include screenings of Number One, The One Who Knows, Pen and Rowing Across the Atlantic.

“We are glad that the Silver Cranes team has been visiting Klaipėda for three years in a row and is adding to the program on the eve of the Sea Festival, which sows the festive mood in the city. On Thursday, at the beginning of various maritime ceremonies, Lithuanian cinema crowns the evening very beautifully and sensitively.

Last year’s experience shows that the audience likes to watch movies in the open air, in the heart of the city, so this time we will stay at the Theater Square. We did not choose the films by chance – “Oars through the Atlantic” turned out to be the most “seafaring” and the most suitable film for the festival, by the way, it is symbolic that A. Valujavičius himself visited the festival last year. We hope that the selected films, the host of the event and the atmosphere will not leave the audience indifferent”, says Živilė Putnienė, project manager of the Sea Festival.

The festival organizers promise to bring film screenings to Lithuanian cities in August as well. Meetings will be held until the end of the summer in Šakiai district, Ežerėlis, Kėdainiai, Lazdijai, Jurbarka and Melnrage. You can find the festival program here here.
