Sia Anagnostopoulou: Question about the ICU of the Artas hospital – 2024-07-23 11:38:10

Achaia MP Sia Anagnostopoulou and Ferhat Ozgiur submitted a parliamentary question to the Minister of Health on the subject: “Extreme understaffing has closed the Intensive Care Unit of the Artas hospital indefinitely”.

The lack of care for public hospitals brings Artas Hospital to a critical point. Insufficient funding and the Government’s insistence on privatization of Health lead to a degradation of the services provided and endanger the health of citizens.

A typical example is the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, which was closed indefinitely due to a lack of intensivists. For three years, the ICU operated with only 4 doctors and highly trained nursing staff, achieving excellent therapeutic results.

The understaffing, however, reached an impasse, resulting in the suspension of the operation of the ICU. This puts patients who need immediate hospitalization at immediate risk, while forcing the postponement of surgeries, putting the health of dozens of citizens at risk. At the same time, the remaining medical and nursing staff are asked to work in conditions of suffocating pressure, leading to burnout.

The MPs of the New Left ask the Minister if he intends to take all the necessary initiatives in order to immediately hire two intensivist assistants, so that the ICU of the Artas hospital can reopen.
