Shubman Gill Becomes Fastest Player to Reach 2000 Runs in ODIs: Breaking Records and Creating History

Dharamshala: Indian opener Shubman Gill entered the record book during the World Cup match once morest New Zealand. Gill holds the record of being the fastest player to reach 2000 runs in ODIs. Along with this, Gill also holds the record of being the youngest player to achieve this feat.

Gill has crossed this milestone in the 38th innings of ODIs. Gill broke the record held by former South African player Hashim Amla who reached this feat in 40 innings. Gill holds the record held by Amla for 12 years. On 21 January 2011, Amla completed 2000 runs once morest India at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth. Gill, on the other hand, surpassed this record when he reached an individual score of 14 once morest New Zealand in Dharamsala. Gill faced 31 balls in the match and was dismissed for 26 runs.

Gill left behind Zaheer Abbas (45 innings), Kevin Pietersen (45), Babar Azam (45) and Rassi Vander Dassan (45).

Gill has scored 1325 runs at an average of 66.25 from 23 ODIs so far this year. It includes five centuries, six fifties and one double century.

Along with this, Gill surpassed Shikhar Dhawan to become the fastest Indian player to complete 2000 runs in ODIs. Dhawan’s achievement was from 48 innings. Dhawan’s achievement was on November 9, 2014 in the match once morest Sri Lanka in Hyderabad.
