Shortage of teachers – around 6,800 positions advertised again

The Ministry of Education announced this in a press release on Friday. The main application deadline ends on May 3rd; you can apply via a central platform (https://www.klassejob.at).

This roughly corresponds to the figures from the previous year. At that time, 6,846 positions were advertised in the schools – they were also filled (including with teacher training students and career changers).

“The central platform offers applicants the opportunity to get a better and easier overview and to apply according to the time,” said Education Minister Martin Polaschek (ÖVP) in a press release. “I am confident that we will be able to fill all open apprenticeship positions this year – especially due to our comprehensive measures through the ‘Class Job’ campaign.”

There is a particularly large shortage of teachers in Vienna and Lower Austria

The advertisements for full-time and part-time positions are not evenly distributed throughout Germany. By far the most positions are to be filled in Vienna (2,164). However, the second most are advertised in Lower Austria (1,000) and in the much smaller Tyrol (1,016), followed by Upper Austria (749). Vorarlberg is already in fifth place (544), followed by Styria (510), Salzburg (350), Burgenland (245) and Carinthia (243).

In the coming weeks, additional positions will be advertised that will become available at short notice (e.g. through maternity leave) for the next school year.
